Janelle Bynum and congressional delegation silent
PORTLAND, Ore.—As Portland battles chaotic protests next to low-income housing distressing residents, and nearly 800,000 Oregonians stand to lose food assistance Gov. Tina Kotek ran away to Asia for a political trip at taxpayer expense.
Then, two Senate Democrats blasted Kotek, slamming her for delaying her signing of the new $4.3B tax heist in an effort to suppress Oregonians from having a fair say in referring the tax to the ballot instead of going into effect (allowing people to essentially “repeal” the tax).
State Sens. Jeff Golden, D-Ashland, and Janeen Sollman, D-Hillsboro, said respectively, that Kotek’s political stunt “[r]uns squarely against some of our core values as Democrats, open government, citizen empowerment, transparency,” and that Oregonians deserve a, “full opportunity for civic participation [that] is essential to democratic governance.
Republican congressional candidate Jonathan Lockwood released the following statement:
“Kotek is proving she cares more about politics and party, obstruction and denial than she does about real working people and families. She is unfit for governor and Janelle Bynum should be picking up the phone and calling her on behalf of her constituents instead of pretending like she’s working for us. Oregonians who are on the brink should also take note that a Republican governor made sure his constituents needing food assistance would not go hungry, but the illiberal governor of Oregon is a big faker and a trash talker instead of a leader and shrugged it off as Trump’s fault. ‘Trump’s fault’ doesn’t feed anyone.”
